Inspired by Le Corbusier

Great Arthur House is in the Golden Lane Estate in the city of London. I love this tower block with its bright yellow panels and curved hat. According to the English Heritage web site it was designed by the architects Chamberlin, Powell and Bon and inspired by the work of Le Corbusier. It was built in the 1950's. There is a lovely indoor swimming pool on the estate which has recently reopened after being renovated.

St Paul's protest

St Paul's protest by blackscoota

From last month....I almost missed my opportunity to do this sketch.  The Occupy London protesters where evicted by the police later that evening.

Bollards

There are bollards like these dotted all around the City of London, of many different shapes and sizes. These ones are in the small streets/lanes just south of Smithfield meat market, EC1.

Almost complete

I work near The Shard and have watched it slowly grow over the last couple of years. When complete it will be the tallest building in the EU. It is due for completion later this year

The Wellcome Collection Museum

Some of the weird and wonderful items on display at the Medicine Man exhibition at this interesting little museum in Euston Road. The items were collected by Henry Wellcome who was a philanthropist and patron of science, and founder of the museum.

I dropped my pen while sketching these, it bounced off my shoe and under a huge cabinet. The gap was too narrow to fit my hand in. Almost gave up recovering it but finally managed to free it by rolling up an Evening Standard I had in my bag. Got a few strange looks and a visit from the security guard.

Painted wooden mask from Bhutan and various amputation saws.
